Terms of engagement

This site is published by La Grande Saison SAS, a société par actions simplifiée registered in Paris, with a branch office in London. In these terms, “the bureau” means La Grande Saison SAS and “you” means a member or an enquirer.

Membership is offered by referral, is limited to 140 places, and is personal to the member. It may not be assigned, shared with a household beyond the persons named in the file, or used on behalf of a third party without the bureau’s agreement.

Membership runs the calendar year and renews by agreement each November. Either party may decline renewal without giving reasons. The bureau may end a membership immediately where an instruction would require us to mislead a house, an auction room or an institution.

We undertake to work each instruction with care, judgement and the standing we hold, and to tell you plainly and early when something cannot be achieved.

We do not undertake to obtain any particular seat, credential, appointment, box or lot. Placement, previews and access are granted by third parties at their sole discretion and can be withdrawn by them at any time, including at the door.

Advice on auctions, private treaty and commissions is opinion formed in good faith on the information available. It is not a valuation, an authentication, a guarantee of condition or title, or investment advice. Bids are placed only on your written instruction and within the limit you set.

The bureau takes no commission, referral fee or retrocession from any house, gallery, fair, dealer or auction room. Our fee is paid by you alone.

The annual fee is invoiced from Paris and is payable in advance. Third-party costs — tickets, credentials, buyer’s premium, travel, fabrication — are yours and are passed on at cost.

Where an event is cancelled or postponed by its organiser, we will recover what can be recovered on your behalf, but the bureau cannot refund a third party’s charges it has not received.

Each party keeps the other’s affairs confidential. The bureau will not confirm to any person that you are a member, nor discuss any part of your year outside the desks working your file.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, the bureau’s total liability in any year is limited to the fee paid for that year, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

The text, layout, typography and marks on this site belong to La Grande Saison SAS. The site is offered for information; nothing on it is an offer of membership or a guarantee of access.

These terms are governed by French law. The courts of Paris have exclusive jurisdiction, save that a consumer may bring proceedings in the courts of their own domicile. Disputes may first be put to a mediator, whose details we will provide on request.
